D.O.A.
Last month Jay-Z proclaimed the death of autotune, a digital effect with it's roots in analog vocoders developed early in the 20th century.
Originally developed with the telecommunications industry in mind, the technology was eventually discovered by musicians who began to incorperate it into compositions as a novelty.
The Sonovox
Here's a clip of Alvino Rey whose 'singing guitar' used technology that would eventually become the Talkbox.
Along with the vocoder, the talkbox was frequently dismissed as a gimmick.
Nonetheless these devices that electronically merge the voice with instrumentation found their way onto a huge number of records, across genres and across decades throughout the 20th century.
Around The World Daft Punk, directed by Michel Gondry (not)
Battlecat using a Talkbox.
Mack Maine with Lil Wayne on autotune
Autotune, B.o.B.

for some reason, i've been severely lax on the showing the interweb things i like on the interweb front lately... well no more.
everything is terrible
not that there's much of a chance you don't know about this yet... i mean, if you are bothering to read this blog, you are likely severely addicted to radical insanity, pointless/pointed media, and possibly drugs... or maybe you just know somebody who knows somebody, and you really like inconsistency in updates. but i digress, did i have a point? yes... yes i did. everything is in fact terrible. and i very much appreciate people who can distill shit media down to it's crunchy, bitter awesome. and that's exactly what this is about... and yeah, thats right... i put the same link in 4 times now... so fucking go there (5) all-ready. it's not all perfect, but it is consistently horrible in an oft perfect way. scroll through the older posts... waste some time... if the numbers are right... theres a good chance you're unemployed... so have fun with it...
here's a taste... welcome to my mind.
why am i so different?

Hi 'n' Lo,
A new Ruben Ortiz Torres video just showed up on youtube.
It's described by it's author as:
"The missing link between Brancusi, constructivism and the low rider pick up movement of the late eighties and early nineties."
I think you could also add Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and Fernand Leger to that list.
Last up, is the first work by Ruben Ortiz Torres I ever saw. I guess it's his most famous.
It still looks and sounds good after all these years, especially on youtube.
It belongs mixed in-between a whole list of low bit rate rips of constructivist/futurist films and 3gp's of radical beds and hydraulic hops.

my wife seems to be joining a cult...

and this guy appears to have something to do with it.
i do have to to say that i am quite fond of the music...
Gurdjieff / de Hartman Music
and his moustache... i'm not entirely sure, as i really know nothing about him thus far, but i believe that his knowledge of the 4th way may indeed come from his moustache.
lot's of twirly dancing... that's a good sign.
...okay, i just finished watching the dancey video in it's entirety... and i think i might need to join this cult too...
takin' a ride on the 4th way highway.
...and soon, after some research and dance lessons, i will know what all this enneagram stuff is about(although i was just informed by the wifey that said enneagram is but one hair of the moustache that is the 4th way), and i will tell you... and we will have the coolest moustache dance parties the world has ever seen.
ps. here is a link to the video for cult of personality by living colour

WOW... this is perfect... it really is... so i in turn will post it... and be inspired towards future postyness.
my friend julie (who is in her own right amazing) swung through town recently and whilst here told me some tall tales about a series of pee-wee videos a friend of hers had produced... now ideally they sounded fantabulous... but things have a tendancy of seeming way awesome when described through the all praising, easily excitable mouth of a friend. (as many of you will no doubt understand through experience with countless shows featuring shit mediocre jam/punk/folk/electro/glitch/rap groups you've been dragged to because somebody says"this is the best band ever, and i'm not just saying that because i'm dating the douchebag who fronts it")
...but really... this nearly brought a tear to my eye... (the phillip glass helped...)
...ya see?
damn.
